FAQ
What do I do in preparation for my first therapy session?
First of all, you've taken the hardest step, which is deciding to invest in yourself and your own wellbeing by seeking therapy. Next, call my office to set up an appointment time. Remember, it's important to "shop" for a therapist, just as you would for any other professional you are considering hiring. This is someone you're going to open up to and share a deep part of yourself. It's important to find the right therapist for you. To help you with this, I offer a free 20 minutes. You are welcome to come to my office and meet with me with no obligation whatsoever. This is a good time for you to interview me in order to help you decide if I am the right therapist for you. If you decide that we're not a good match, I will be happy to supply you with the names and phone numbers of 3 other therapists who might be a better fit for you.
Now, should you decide that we are indeed a good match, it's at that time that we'll set up an appointment time. I offer daytime and evening appointments. If you feel a connection just by viewing my website and feel attracted to the various therapies that I offer, simply call my office at 972.231.4466 to set up an appointment. Plan on 80 minutes for the first session. Payment is taken care of at the beginning of every session. If I am not on your insurance, please check out the Out of Network Benefits through your insurance carrier. I will provide you with a receipt at the end of every session that you may present to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. Next, print out the INFORMED CONSENT and CLIENT INFORMATION forms found on the website and fill them out. Bring these with you to your first appointment.
How can I experience the most success in my therapy?
Though there are several answers to this question, following these steps should make it easier:
- Arrive on time to your appointment
- Approach the homework assignments as opportunities to put into practice what you learn in your sessions. This also speeds up the therapeutic process.
- Ask questions. This is your therapy that you are paying for. It's important that you feel free to express yourself and to ask questions. In fact, this step in itself is therapeutic for a lot of clients, especially if they were not allowed to question authority as children.
- Stay with the therapy until you have completed your goals. It's easier to avoid relapse and a sense of failure when you have completed your therapy.
How long does therapy take?
There is no single answer to this question because of the varied reasons people seek treatment. What I can tell you for sure is that together, we will formulate therapy goals and will review progress on those goals approximately every 6 weeks. This is a concrete way that you can review for yourself how the therapy is working for you.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are scheduled for 50 minutes. Hypnotherapy sessions are for 90 minutes.
